DC Electrical Experts & More

At Van’s, our experienced techs remanufacture and repair alternators, starters, DC generators and motors with a typical 24-hour turnaround, and domestic carburetors, mechanical fuel pumps and pre-HEI distributors with about a week turnaround—all in-house. We offer advanced reconditioning service for DPF’s and DOC’s (diesel exhaust) with a 24-to-48-hour turnaround, and thorough cleaning and analysis of gasoline fuel injectors with 3 to 5 days turnaround. No bench fees for units that can’t be returned to service!

Van’s makes power cables to spec! Just bring us the old cable or tell us the gauge, length and termination needed and we will professionally assemble your new cable using premium, flexible, high strand-count pure copper welding cable and heavy-duty lugs… in minutes, while you wait, ready when you get here, or shipped out the same day.

Harnesses and pigtails putting a dent in your budget? Have a burned-out pin or a corroded connector in a fifteen-hundred-bleeping-dollar main harness on backorder until 2035? Van’s can ID and supply the connector components, repair or copy your original harness, or assemble complete harnesses to your specifications for a fraction of dealer cost. You can even save a trip—just text us some pictures and we will have your equipment back in service in no time.

Breakers, fuses, switches, solenoids, and relays—we stock pretty much all of them and we can identify them from pictures. We’re circuit protection and power distribution experts. We can help you design, simplify, and harden your DC bus against short circuits and transient voltage spikes.

Is it the alternator? The starter? Could it be in the wiring? The switch? If it won’t do its thing and you’re not sure why, we can help you narrow it down with a free, on-the-spot bench test of your rotating electrical unit or other DC electrical component. We can provide testing guidance for distant customers via phone or help you to locate a reputable local. Don’t throw parts at it… Save yourself grief, time and money and fix it right the first time. We know how it works, and we know why it fails.

Van’s stocks DOT, warning, compartment, and specialty lighting from all the major brands: Truck-Lite, Grote, Maxxima, Peterson, Optronics, Tecniq, Whelen, Weldon, Betts, Ecco, Star, Able2/Sho-Me and more! We stock and repair TowMate (and similar) wireless and wired tow bars. We can identify most lights from pictures, and we’ll have you inspection ready, right away.

Are you still running a brick-style battery isolator to separate your auxiliary loads from your cranking battery? These old tech devices can cost you as much as a volt and a half drop. Upgrade your isolation with an easy to service and cost-effective Littelfuse electromechanical smart isolator, or a high-tech US-made solid-state auxiliary battery separator from InPower. Both types handle hundreds of continuous amps, are fully automatic with status reporting, have nil volt drop, and feature a boost override so operators can jump-start the truck from the auxiliary battery bank. They’re easy to install and highly reliable.

Make your mobile power work for you, the way you want. Van’s takes a total system approach to power generation and management. We are your independent source for high-output alternators, programmable solid-state relays, smart disconnects, power distribution modules, circuit protection, monitoring and instrumentation, battery chargers and equalizers, Inverters and DC to DC converters, solid-state switch panels, wiring devices and more! Our expertise is backed by brands including Vanner, InPower, Kussmal, Xantrex, and Magnum Dimensions.

Van’s stocks OEM new starters and alternators from brands including BorgWarner (formerly DelcoRemy) and Prestolite-Leece Nevile, and we manufacture new high-output alternators like our drop-in 350+ amp alternator platform for most domestic trucks and many other passenger vehicles. Plus, we keep a huge inventory of our in-house rebuilt and aftermarket-new units for nearly all agricultural, industrial, commercial and first responder applications.

Van’s is your source for carburetors, carb kits and carb parts for antiques, passenger cars and trucks, tractors, lift trucks, tugs, and industrial engines. We stock Holley, Tomco, Walker, Zenith, Daytona and obsolete parts, aftermarket kits and more. OE Marvel-Schebler, Zenith, Kingston, Onan, Rochester, Carter, Holley, Autolite, Motorcraft—we know them all inside and out, and we have documentation and catalogs going back to the very beginning.

Our independence allows us to be very flexible. Van’s is more than a supplier. We collaborate on our customers’ projects and directly address their priorities. We can take on challenges that our competitors won’t touch. We build personal, permanent relationships with our clients and vendors, and we have deep knowledge of all the products we supply. We partner with other Hoosier independent small businesses to keep our clients’ equipment in service, out there making money and getting the job done.

History

Van’s Electrical Systems is a family owned and operated Hoosier mainstay. Marvin Van, Sr. founded us as a carburetor rebuild shop 1959, just down the street from our current Indianapolis facility. He rapidly expanded his services to include DC electrical and grew us into a general auto parts store and beyond. Marvin provided fulfilling and well-paid careers for generations of employees, and we’ve kept true to his foundational core principles: dedication to family, superior customer service, and attention to detail. Today, Marvin’s sons and granddaughter personally serve clients every day, and they have kept us close to our roots. Employees’ children have joined the company. While our primary focus is now on electrical parts for industrial and commercial equipment, we’ve kept our carb and electric rebuild shops hopping all day, every day.
